Misconstructed Nov 12, 2010
By Ohrwurm This salt box is narrower on the bottom than on top. This makes it topple over, when you swing open the swivel lid and grab a pinch of salt. Nice magnet and wood, appealing craftmanship - - - but as mentioned: Not reliable in the heat of cooking.

It's a work of art! Jun 30, 2011
By Shirley A. Herron I didn't buy my Berard Salt Keeper from Amazon, rather I bought it in London at Fortum & Mason, when the pound versus the US$ was MOST unfavorable to Americans, but I couldn't be happier, except if I HAD bought it from Amazon, since it's a whole lot less than I paid. Another reviewer mentioned that it tips over when the lid is swung open, but if you use it as intended, which is one-handed (the lid swings open with a flick of your fingers), you can easily get the pinch you need, or even the much larger amount, for salting pasta water, or whatever. In addition, it is a joy to behold. Now, I spent a lot of time choosing mine, but that's because all the choices available to me were so lovely that it was difficult to narrow the choice to the one I finally took home. Thus, I would have no hesitation in letting whoever fulfills the order make that choice -- it will be beautiful, I promise you! Please, if you're at all considering this treasure, buy it now -- you will love looking at it, wiping it and making the burling shine...oh, just trust me on this!
