Monsieur Pierre Dubost, a professional in cutlery, who was himself a cutler's son, founded Dubost Colas Pradel in 1920. They started in a small workshop but rapidly grew under the inspiration of Jean Dubost, the founder's son. The bumblebee that is found on all the Laguiole knives is one of the emblems of the area, signifying its reliability The blade, made of high-grade stainless steel, is stamped, then ground and then polished with over 25 different manual production stages. The Laguiole knife has been crafted in the heart of France for over 200 years.

The only reason I'm posting this review is to protect future gift givers/receivers from disappointment. I asked my wife for a Laguiole waiters corkscrew for Father's Day. I guess I should have been more specific; my wife didn't know that genuine Laguiole corkscrews are $150+ and are frequently knocked-off. So, she thought herself a genius for getting this "corkscrew" for $27. To say that I am disappointed in this "corkscrew" is an understatement. First, it's fixed; it doesn't fold up. I guess it would make a nice shiv, though. Besides, the whole point of a *real* Laguiole is to use leverage; can't do that here. This is essentially a $3 twist and pull corkscrew in a $1 wooden box. Oh, and let's not forget the included bottle opener, something Chateaux Laguiole is renowned for. I guess this would make a pretty good gag gift for a wine aficionado, assuming you want to pay $27 + shipping for a chuckle.
